Every home comes with its own quirks—and questions. Do you find it hard to figure out why temperatures are uneven from room to room, your energy bills always seem too high, or you’re not as comfortable as you could be?

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR can help you enjoy every room while lowering your energy costs by up to 25% a year.* Plus, you can get rebates from PSE&G to make energy-saving home improvements.


How You Can Participate

To get started making your home more energy efficient, schedule a home energy assessment with a participating contractor.

Next, depending on the results of your assessment, you could qualify for rebates up to $5,000 and you may be eligible for up to $15,000 in interest-free on-bill repayment to help you pay for your upgrades.

What to Expect

The participating contractor you select will come to your home to test the following:

  • Health and safety check (carbon monoxide levels, moisture, indoor air quality)
  • Overall comfort level (cold/hot spots, indoor air quality, stuffiness, stale odors)
  • Insulation levels in walls, ceilings, and attic
  • Air leakage around windows and doors
  • Heating and cooling systems efficiency
  • Hot water system

Within a few days, you’ll receive a custom report with recommendations about steps you can take to reduce your energy use, control costs, and take advantage of rebates and financing options.


On-Bill Repayment

You may be eligible for interest-free, on-bill repayment to help defer the costs of your energy efficiency upgrades.

  • If you receive either electric or gas service from PSE&G, you may qualify for up to $15,000 in on-bill repayment. If you are eligible, the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program offers an on-bill repayment term of 84 months (seven years) for project costs less than or equal to $10,000, or a term of 120 months (ten years) for project costs between $10,001 and $15,000.

Federal Tax Credits

Federal tax credits are available for certain energy efficiency upgrades which may be performed under the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program,including:

  • $150 credit for a home energy audit 
  • Up to $600 credit for the following items:
    • Central air conditioners  
    • Gas, propane, or oil heaters 
    • Oil furnaces or hot water boilers
    • Natural gas, propane, or oil hot water boilers
    • Electrical system improvements installed in conjunction with and enables the use of other qualified energy efficiency measures
  • Up to $1,200 credit for insulation and air sealing upgrades

In addition, you may be able to claim 30% of upgrade costs up to $2,000 for: 


Are you the owner or manager of a garden-style building with three or more units?

What can you expect from the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR for Multi-family Homes Program?

An approved Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified contractor who works on multi-family buildings can visit your property and identify opportunities to reduce your building’s energy costs. Your contractor will conduct a comprehensive energy assessment of the following:

  • Health and safety (carbon monoxide levels, moisture, indoor air quality)
  • Overall comfort level (cold/hot spots, stuffiness, stale odors)
  • Insulation levels in walls, ceilings, and attic
  • Air leakage around windows and doors
  • Heating and cooling system efficiency
  • Cooling system/central air conditioning efficiency, if applicable
  • Hot water system

Afterward, your contractor will provide you with a report based on energy modeling of your property’s existing conditions and will propose recommendations to reduce energy use, which will include air/duct sealing, insulation, water heater upgrades, and HVAC equipment upgrades. You may be eligible for on-bill repayment options that are interest-free (0%). If your company qualifies, you may enroll in on-bill repayment for a term of 84 months for $2,000 per unit, with a maximum of $250,000 per project.
