Sunday Night Football This Week: Bets & Odds Breakdown

When Tom Brady retired from the National Football League, it was the end of an era, and of a career the likes of which we may never see again on the gridiron.

No one will ever again win seven Super Bowl titles, nor will they win 10 conference crowns, five Super Bowl MVPs, or many of the other records he holds.

Well, except for one guy: Tom Brady.

That’s right, HE IS BACK!

Brady’s retirement lasted all of 40 days, and with his return, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been installed as the NFC favorites (+333) and as the second-favorite to win a second Super Bowl title in three seasons (+750).

Of course, there are a few teams in the NFC that might beg to differ about the status of conference favorite: Los Angeles, for one, which beat the Bucs on the way to the Super Bowl LVI victory.

Maybe one of the other teams is Dallas, which right now is the fifth choice to win the NFC (+800) behind the Bucs, Packers, Rams, and 49ers. After all, the Cowboys did go 12-5 last season, before a stunning loss to San Francisco at home in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Dallas and Tampa Bay, if you remember, opened the 2021 season on Thursday Night Football, and played one of the classic contests of the campaign, as Ryan Succop kicked a 36-yard field goal with two seconds left to send the Bucs home victorious 31-29 on the night they raised the Super Bowl LV banner.

This year, there will be no such fanfare before the two teams face off to kick off the Sunday Night Football slate: just two 12+ win teams from 2021 ready to get back to winning ways in 2022.

Which NFC team will get off to a 1-0 start? Read the preview below to check out what we think.

NFL Week 1 Sunday Night Football

  • Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-0) at Dallas Cowboys (0-0)
  • Time: 8:20 p.m. EDT, 7:20 p.m. CDT, 6:20 p.m. MDT, 5:20 p.m. PDT
  • TV Channel: NBC and fubo.TV
  • Last Week’s Scores: This is the opening game for both, but check back for preseason final week scores.
  • Opening Moneyline Odds: Bucs -143, Cowboys +117
  • Current Moneyline Odds: Bucs -143, Cowboys +117
  • Opening Point Spread Lookahead Line: Bucs -2, -110
  • Current Point Spread Lines: Bills -2.5, -110
  • Over/Under Total Opening Line: 51.5
  • Current Over/Under Total: 52

🤕 Injury Updates: Check back at the end of August after training camp and preseason to see which players will not be ready to go opening night.

Check the injury report daily in the days leading up to the game, as the COVID-19 protocols could change the lines quickly if players are out.

  • Head-2-Head: these two teams have played a lot over the years, including in last year’s Thursday Night Football opener. Going back to the start of 2008, Dallas has gone 6-2, and the last six games have been by a touchdown or less. Tampa Bay won last year 31-29, to continue the hot run for Super Bowl winners in their openers.
  • What to watch for: Tom Terrific did not come back to lose in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, so expect Tampa Bay to come out of the gate firing. The Buccaneers could never really get it going in 2021, although they really did not in 2020 either, until the playoffs. Injuries derailed Tampa last season, and I would expect the Bucs to be raring to go in 2022.
  • The Cowboys went 12-5 in 2021, but the NFC East should be (maybe?) much more competitive in 2022. Philadelphia might be a threat near the top of the standings, and people are saying that the Giants could be better. Can Dallas win 12 games again this year? Its over/under win total is 10.5, and the Eagles are set at 9.5. This game could tell us a lot about where the Cowboys are.

Prediction: the line is tough, and I would like it if it was -3, but I have to take the Rams here in this spot. I think the pass rush of LA is going to cause all sorts of problems for Burrow, and Ramsey should be able to shut down Ja’Marr Chase. I don’t see anyone being able to slow down Kupp, Beckham, and that passing attack, unless Stafford does it himself.

Sunday Night Football Bets

Sunday Night Football is viewed as being particularly important because every Sunday of the NFL season ends with a huge matchup. Here, we will look at the SNF betting lines for this week’s matchup and what impacts them.

Finding Sunday Night Football odds is quite easy, as almost all top online sportsbooks offer markets that allow you to make the best bets for SNF possible. Of course, not all sports betting providers operate in all states. That said, your options are likely to include the likes of BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, and PointsBet, to name just a few.

As you can imagine, with that kind of choice it isn't at all difficult to find Sunday Night Football odds that are worth taking. You'll also have plenty of special offers for Sunday Night Football to choose from, including boosts for SNF prop bets and more.

Sunday Night Football Betting Markets

Learn all about the specifics of every main Sunday Night Football odds market to make better bets

When you come to make your Sunday Night Football predictions, you'll find that online sportsbooks will offer all of the most popular NFL betting markets, including plenty of SNF prop bets. Here's a quick overview of the main markets you're likely to come across.

Sunday Night Football Money Line

The simplest prediction you can make about the Sunday Night Football game concerns which team will win. If you only want to bet on one team to win, the Sunday Night Football money line market will allow you to do that. The team that the sportsbook expects to win - the favorites - will be offered at the lowest Sunday Night Football odds. The team with the least chance of winning according to their assessment - the underdogs - will be offered at higher odds. Whichever team you select for your SNF predictions for winning bets, if they win the game your wager will also win.

Sunday Night Football Spread

Those of you who want to make a prediction about the winning margin, as well as which team will win, can do so by betting the Sunday Night Football spread. The sportsbook will set a point spread based on its own opinion of the game, and you can then bet according to how your own opinion compares. Because you are effectively making two Sunday Night Football predictions (who will win and by how much), this is a slightly more tricky bet to land, but the odds offered will also be slightly bigger to reflect that fact.

Over/Under Sunday Night Football

Sunday Night Football odds will also be available in over/under markets. These don't need you to predict which team will win the game. Instead, you have to predict whether the total number of points scored by both teams combined will be over or under the sportsbook's stated total. The odds for both outcomes will almost always be the same, so expect both over and under to be offered at -110 or thereabouts.

Sunday Night Football Prop Bets

If you want to take an even bigger risk in the hope of landing an even greater reward, Sunday Night Football prop bets could also be worth a look. SNF prop bets don't involve betting on the overall outcome of the game itself but focus instead on events that may or may not take place within the game. For example, popular Sunday Night Football prop bets include naming the first team to score or nominating a player to score a touchdown.

There are plenty of other Sunday Night Football bets that you can make, but the markets highlighted here are the ones that most bettors tend to concentrate on. Explore your favorite online sportsbooks to see the full range of opportunities available and take advantage of the best bets for SNF according to your own needs and preferences.

Sportsbooks Offering the Best Bets for SNF

As you would expect, the best bets for SNF wagering action will be offered by the best NFL betting sites and apps. There are several options based on location, including DraftKings, PointsBet, FanDuel, Caesars (formerly William Hill), and BetMGM. Your own choice will be limited to the ones that are legally allowed to operate in your particular state, but if you want to start betting quickly, here are some of the sportsbooks that we recommend most highly.

Many will also offer game and player props for primetime games. Keep an eye out for Sunday Night Football odds boosts or special offers.

Tips for Making the Best Bets for SNF

Learn how to make the best bets for SNF predictions with our expert tips

Since this is such a high-profile game each week, the public betting usually moves the line. Look at the line on the Sunday night or Monday morning before and see what you like. Then if it starts to move in your favor, wait until closer to kickoff.

If the public starts to move the line away from your position, you can bet against the public. This is called betting like a sharp. Remember that our own sharps share their NFL best bets each week, so make sure to check their SNF predictions before placing your bets.

With Sunday Night Football being in its own time slot with usually the biggest ratings of the week, the game gets more attention. If the line changes more than you like, wait until the game starts and make an in-game wager. This is a good strategy if the favorite falls behind and becomes an underdog, especially at home.

Of course, always follow the latest news on injuries, coach changes, weather forecasts, and other important factors that could turn all Sunday Night Football predictions upside down.
