As longtime supporters of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, my wife Ashley and I are staunch believers in the transformative power of its purposeful programs and the positive impact they have on young lives. I am deeply honored to be named BGCA’s board chair-elect, and I’m committed to furthering the organization’s mission of empowering young people to reach their full potential. Together with the rest of our dedicated board, as well as the exceptional staff in clubs and the national office, I am confident we will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of millions of youth.

As a bank built on purpose, Truist is dedicated to inspiring and building better lives and communities by helping people become more knowledgeable about managing money. This Financial Literacy Month, I am delighted to share that we have a new financial education resource available for high school and college age students: Truist Life, Money, and Choices. Led by Truist teammate volunteers, this financial simulation allows students to engage in real-life financial scenarios and decision-making. Through a free, immersive learning experience, participants are invited to explore different financial strategies and understand the consequences of their choices. Truist Life, Money, and Choices provides young people with important knowledge that builds financial confidence early. And that financial confidence is key to opening up possibilities and unlocking the potential that will help our next generation thrive. Wednesday evening was full of big ideas, bold technology, and excitement as we celebrated the second Truist Foundation Inspire Awards! In 2022, #TruistFoundation launched the Inspire Awards, a collaboration with MIT Solve, in response to the unprecedented impact of COVID-19 on small businesses, particularly on entrepreneurs from undercapitalized communities. This year’s Inspire Awards Challenge looked at innovative, technology-based solutions as a proven pathway to resiliency and sustainability for small businesses. Technology solutions empower businesses to reach new customers, adapt during economic disruptions, streamline operations, and build partnerships that strengthen the small business community. Technology is critical during uncertain times and will be increasingly important to small business success. What an honor it was to recognize and support this year’s finalists in their mission-driven work, which aligns perfectly with our purpose at Truist to inspire and build better lives and communities. Congratulations to the winners, Centro Community Partners and Immigrants Rising, and to all the finalists on the meaningful changes they are igniting across their communities! April is National Volunteer Month, and in 2023, Truist teammates volunteered more than 72,000 hours with more than 2,300 organizations, and more than 800 served on nonprofit boards. I’d like to thank the thousands of Truist teammates who demonstrate unwavering care as they volunteered in our communities across the country. Fueled by our collective purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities, teammates bring to life the power of purple by giving thousands of hours of service to nonprofit organizations and causes that align with their personal purposes. In addition to company-organized events, teammates are encouraged to organize their own volunteer activities, team building events and Lighthouse Projects—volunteer efforts identified by teammates that address humanitarian challenges and gaps in their local communities. Our teammates inspire me every day with their generosity and the positive impact they are making. It was an incredible night at Charlotte Center City Partners annual Vision Awards where we celebrated the impact of so many terrific organizations and people!
