It’s Time to speed up climate action, ignite progress and go fast. It’s Time to make a call on fossil fuels – we need to ‘phase out’, instead of ‘transition away’. It’s Time to chisel climate into the heart of our national policies and international agreements and hold our elected officials to account. It’s Time to invest in scalable innovation, in energy storage, grid infrastructure, steel and concrete decarbonization, and finance. While we've been hosting the #USClimateActionSummit, our programmatic network has been nothing short of busy. Check out what we've accomplished this past week: ⭕️ Pioneering #Under2Coalition state, Querétaro, has launched an important venture with private businesses and environmental associations to tackle sustainability across the supply chain. https://lnkd.in/e65MZGg4 ⭕️ The IEA this week launched its 2024 Global EV Outlook. Climate Group's EV100+ programme is mentioned as an initiative that advocates for more ambitious policies to speed up the transition to electric trucks. https://lnkd.in/e9e7c_5w ⭕ Our State Climate Fellowship in India keeps going from strength to strength. By the end of phase two, the fellows greatly contributed to the climate work of several Indian states, with innovative projects & community engagement initiatives. As the #USClimateActionSummit officially comes to close, we'd like to take the time to share key moments from our wider week events, all key components in continuing the conversation on climate action. Some highlights include: ⭕️ We visited two exhibitions at the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Natural History at the start of the week. These exhibits included 'Our Places: Connecting People and Nature' and 'Lights Out: Recovering Our Night Sky'. ⭕️ We're proud to have partnered with Us Naval Research Laboratory and the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations & Environment to provide a tour of the Laboratory for Autonomous Systems Research (LASR). The event had live demonstrations and presentations on a range of pioneering projects, and Honorable Ms. Meredith Berger also spoke to attendees how NRL's advancement in energy technologies will make naval forces more efficient and capable. ⭕️ We hosted a roundtable, alongside Climate Power En Acción, on Latino Economic Empowerment Through Climate Action at The White House. We were joined by Ali Zaidi, Brenda Mallory, and Andrea Delgado, MPAP to discuss climate's impact on Latino health and economics, roles of mitigation strategies, the burgeoning green economy, job creation, and the clean energy agenda. ⭕️ We attended Climate and Health Day, where the National Academy of Medicine launched their new initiative “Accelerating the National Climate and Health Movement.” This initiative is intended to build upon and sustain the groundswell of health sector organizations addressing climate and health across the nation. ⭕️ Yale Center for Environmental Communication hosted a webinar, 'Methane Matters: Strategic Communications for Climate Action' to discuss the importance of smart, strategic campaigns for cleaner energy alternatives. And, thank you to all who made this informative week such a success. We must take these conversations surrounding climate and Make It Real.

We extend our warmest congratulations to the Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl for the launch of their #LESS label. The LESS label responds to the need for transparent reporting and certification of carbon emissions in steel production and represents a critical step towards a global industry transformation towards #GreenSteel. As highlighted by our senior public affairs manager Andrew Forth, the label 'sets an important standard that will speed up climate action in the steel industry."

Alongside Climate Power En Acción, we hosted a roundtable with influential voices from the Latino community on Latino Economic Empowerment Through Climate Action at The White House in Washington, DC today. We delved into the pressing issues of climate's impact on Latino health and economics, emphasizing the pivotal roles of mitigation strategies, the burgeoning green economy, job creation, and the clean energy agenda. The list of attendees included: ⭕️ Brenda Mallory, Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality ⭕️ Ali Zaidi, Assistant to the President and National Climate Advisor ⭕️ Andrea Delgado, MPAP, Chief of Staff for Natural Resources and Environment at the USDA White House Council on Environmental Quality The discussion underscored the imperative of effectively communicating with Latino communities about the vast economic opportunities inherent in renewable energy and green jobs, across all platforms and languages. Such dialogue is essential for driving positive change.

As we bring the #USClimateAction Leaders' Forum to a close, let's reflect on all that has been accomplished today. From dynamic discussions to collaborative initiatives, this convening serves as a testament on collective implementation towards combating climate change. ⭕ John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy, The White House, spoke on the clean industrial revolution, highlighting the $400bn invested in the sector, the 150 new factories announced, and the record EV adoption in the US last year. ⭕️ Dr. Kathleen Hogan, Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Infrastructure, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announced the successful delivery of Congress's directive to diminish emissions from new or recently renovated federal buildings. Through the Clean Energy for New Federal Buildings and Major Renovations of Federal Buildings Rule. ⭕ UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has joined the Climate Group to launch UNHCR’s Climate Resilience Fund, supporting refugees, displaced individuals, and their host communities from climate shocks. ⭕ The State of Colorado has officially joined the #Under2Coalition, reaffirming their commitment to ambitious climate action. ⭕ The Governance Playbook for Climate Standard-Setting, written by Professor Karthik Ramanna University of Oxford Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, serves as a public good for climate standard-setting organizations and their stakeholders.
