"It's a beer for my dog." Now on tap at our Liquid Centers: Jujube Quad. For our annual International Women's Day creation with Pink Boots Society, our Wood Cellar Specialist Lindsay Schenker cooked up a special Belgian Dark Strong Ale aged in rye whiskey barrels and rested on Jujube dates and apricots for six months, resulting in a 10.4% ABV sipper with a sweet, complex body, deep color, and smooth finish to counteract a punchy nose. Beers created through the Pink Boots Society fund scholarships and provide women in the industry to write and brew their own recipes. "This beer was inspired by my precious pug Jujube, who, like this beer, is a lot in a small package," Lindsay said.

About us
New Belgium Brewing was founded in 1991 in Fort Collins, Colo., by Kim Jordan, a social worker, who built her company the only way a social worker would: People first. Over the past three decades, New Belgium has turned that ethos into a unique “human-powered” business model through practices that were and still are rare in the business world: fully paid healthcare premiums for all coworkers, paying a living wage, open-book management, renewable energy sourcing, a free onsite medical clinic and physician, a deep commitment to philanthropy and advocacy, and much more. With expansions to Asheville, N.C., in 2016; Denver, Colo., in 2018; San Francisco in 2021; and the 2021 acquisition of Bell’s Brewery, based in Kalamazoo, Mich., this people-centric model has led New Belgium to become arguably the most popular and fastest-growing American craft brewer today. New Belgium is famous for its flagship beer, Fat Tire Amber Ale; year-round favorites like Voodoo Ranger IPA (America’s #1 IPA brand), Dominga Mimosa Sour, and La Folie Sour Brown Ale; and an award-winning wood-aged sour program and innovative limited release beers.

For International Women's Day, we took a field trip upstairs to the Analytics Lab to chat with one of the most respected scientists in the beer industry, our Senior Principal QA Scientist, Stacey Williams. Stacey has been with us for 10 years, overseeing a team of scientists that ensure our beer stays up to standard across four sites: Fort Collins, CO, Asheville, NC, Daleville, VA, and @bellsbrewery in Comstock, MI. Her team also carries out a number of research projects, sometimes in collaboration with universities or inspired by findings from conferences and journals. (For instance — a few years ago, her team helped producers understand smoke taint in grapes and hops after an active wildfire season.) Stacey began her career in a male-dominated pharmaceutical industry at a time when women were generally seen as "task-executers" in the lab. Like many women in STEM, she struggled with Imposter Syndrome wrought by a perceived lack of experience and legitimate lack of upward mobility. "Imposter Syndrome was a struggle for me, and I still struggle with it to some degree," she said. "The way I overcame it was building confidence in my skills, learning something new every day, and picking up leadership skills." Above all, though, Stacey's biggest piece of advice to women (or anyone) entering a new industry is seeking mentorship. "Early on in my career, I found a good mentor. I told her my fears, and she helped me work out of it," she said. "Seek out mentorship. Seek out people who've been in your shoes before and learn how they've handled those challenges. It really makes a difference in your career, and in your personal life as well." Stacey told us that, while prepping for this interview, she went back and "looked at who I looked up to," remembering the women who helped her pave a way a long career of leadership and accomplishment. She might not admit it, but Stacey is one of those women to many of our coworkers, and today, we applaud all those who work and lead in the same way she does.

From 1990-2014, the paintbrush of Ann Fitch brought life and personality to each bottle of New Belgium beer. As our liquid artists toiled away in the brewhouse, exploring the bounds of beer and experimenting with new, exciting styles seldom seen in the states, Ann — neighbor of co-founder Kim Jordan — was tasked with embodying them visually, and with her watercolors created an array of scenes in which a drinker could be transported as they sipped. Along with a full horizontal work for each beer, she painted custom frames so that the subject of the painting could fit the vertical orientation of a bottle, which she often adorned with winding green hop bines. (As a treat to our Fort Collins folk, she also snuck the distinct Horsetooth Rock into many of her landscapes.) We recently dusted off the original works to digitize them, and it felt like a privilege to spend time inside the quaint, colorful, calming worlds Ann created by hand. Can you name each beer?

Introducing our first small batch release of 2025, a collaboration with Asheville's own Eda Rhyne Distilling Company: Dorada Oscura. Follow us on a trip to the astral plane with this adventurous union of foeder-aged golden sour and small batch Rye Bock. Our Rye Bock features Ryman Rye from Troubadour Maltings here in Fort Collins, while Eda Rhyne provides the rhubarb root, Amaro Oscura barrels, and Rare Grain Rye Whiskey barrels. This bold, herbaceous 9% ABV sour boasts the rich aromas of dark fruit, spicy rye and cooling herbs from the aging barrel blend to create a cosmic duality between light and dark. Artist and fellow Asheville resident Hannah Dansie painted the label art cosmically connecting the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains once again. Try it exclusively now in Fort Collins now and soon in Asheville.

Let's catch up, Asheville ❤️ Join us Monday, December 16 for our grand re-opening here at 21 Craven St., where we'll be slinging beers from 12-8 PM, resuming normal business hours from there on out. So much work has gone into restoring our production spaces and our beloved Liquid Center, and while there's plenty more to be done, we can't wait to see your friendly faces here once again. (Heads up: we're not yet offering brewery tours — we'll let you know when they will resume.) Thanks for all your patience and support over these last two turbulent months. See you Monday ✌️
