  • Looking for recommendations on sustainability media? Then our new edition of “Green Reads & Screens: NexWafe’s Sustainability Spotlight” is just what you need! 🌱 We welcome Juan Manuel Calderon Sanchez, our Junior Quality Engineer, who shares his favorite sustainability media picks. NexWafe: What does sustainability mean to you personally? Juan: Sustainability means innovating in ways that reduce our environmental footprint. At Nexwafe, it’s about producing solar silicon wafers efficiently and responsibly, ensuring we contribute to a greener future. N: Which book, film, podcast or YouTube channel about sustainability could you recommend to others or has influenced your thinking the most? And could you briefly tell us why this particular medium is so important to you? J: I highly recommend "The Story of Stuff" by Annie Leonard. This book offers a critical examination of our consumer culture and its impact on the environment. N: To give others an insight into what this book/film/podcast/YouTube channel is about, could you tell us a little about the main themes or content? J: "The Story of Stuff" takes you on a journey through the lifecycle of everyday products — from where they come from to where they end up. It highlights how our consumption habits affect both the planet and people. Annie Leonard encourages us to rethink our choices and adopt more sustainable behaviors. It’s a real eye-opener that makes you think twice about what you buy and throw away. N: Which message or insight from this book/film/podcast do you think is the most important, especially in relation to sustainability? J: The key message of "The Story of Stuff" is the urgent need to shift from a "take-make-waste" economic model to one that prioritizes sustainability and equity. Leonard emphasizes that environmental, social, and economic crises are interconnected and must be addressed together for effective action. #Sustainability #GreenTech #Solar #Startup

  • 📖 Leadership Chronicle: Inside NexWafe with Giuliano Vescovi 📖 The Leadership Chronicles series poses questions to NexWafe executives about their career, professional experiences and the company. 🔹 Giuliano Vescovi, Senior Director of Future Technology 🔹 Joined NexWafe March 2021 More excerpts from the full Q&A: Q: How is it different working at a startup like NexWafe? A: Having spent my entire career at technology startups, the environment at NexWafe is not fundamentally different from my previous experiences. However, the main distinction lies in the potential impact the company can have on the market and society. NexWafe benefits from significantly more investment than I have encountered in other startups, thanks to our strong and committed investors. These investors are dedicated to enabling the company to succeed and revolutionize the photovoltaic (PV) industry, challenging the status quo. The substantial resources provided for technology development at NexWafe are highly fulfilling, as they allow us to work on our technology with budgets not usually available for startups. This level of support and investment makes the work at NexWafe particularly rewarding and underscores the importance of our mission to drive innovation and sustainability in the renewable energy sector. Q: What do you think is the most important piece of advice for people who want to pursue their career as a business leader? A: The most important piece of advice for aspiring business leaders is to cultivate grit and dedication. Embrace challenges and setbacks with resilience, and maintain a steadfast commitment to your goals. It's crucial to navigate difficulties and downturns without letting them affect your team. By demonstrating unwavering perseverance and a positive attitude, you can inspire and lead your team effectively, fostering a supportive and productive work environment. • 📖 Leadership Chronicle: Inside NexWafe with Giuliano Vescovi 📖 The Leadership Chronicles series poses questions to NexWafe executives about their career, professional experiences and the company. 🔹 Giuliano Vescovi, Senior Director of Future Technology 🔹 Joined NexWafe March 2021 Excerpts from the full Q&A: Q: What brought you to NexWafe? What does your role at NexWafe entail? A: I was drawn to NexWafe by the excitement of contributing to the development of a disruptive technology in the PV energy sector — technology that promises to be cheaper, more efficient and more sustainable than the current state of the art. NexWafe offers the only viable alternative for enabling competitive local production outside of China, aligning perfectly with my vision of creating a more sustainable environment for future generations. In my current role as Senior Director of Future Technology at NexWafe, I am responsible for shaping the strategic vision and direction of our organization’s technological innovation initiatives. This involves identifying relevant technologies and trends that can drive business transformation, enhance operational efficiency and create new market opportunities. I lead cross-functional teams in researching, developing and implementing advanced technological solutions that align with the company’s mid- and long-term goals. Q: What were the major challenges for you during your initial days at NexWafe? How did you overcome them? What is your biggest challenge today? A: Shortly after joining NexWafe, I collaborated closely with our CTO to conceptualize a new atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) reactor design aimed at achieving commercial production and quality targets. We manufactured, tested and demonstrated proof-of-concept elements of the new design on the existing reactor before decommissioning the old system and building a new one based on our concept. Today, my biggest challenge is ensuring the progress of mid- to long-term strategic projects with limited resources. This requires balancing the allocation of internal resources between these strategic initiatives and the pressing short-term goals of the company.
