DeSantis backers planning to spend $3.3M on governor’s White House bid: Report

.

A group supporting Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) reportedly plans to spend $3.3 million over the next six months on building up the governor’s national profile, increasing beliefs that he will challenge former President Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

The political action committee Ready for Ron will file a report on Thursday with the Federal Election Commission announcing the expected expenditures, according to the Financial Times.

The outlet reports that this sum includes $2.3 million in national television advertisements and about $1 million in independent spending on other promotions of DeSantis.

The Ready for Ron website has a call for action asking people to sign the petition to draft DeSantis for president. The website also claims that the governor is the next great president, “like Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump – who will turn our country around.”

DeSantis is seen as the most likely rival to Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Many conservatives frustrated by the absence of a “red wave” in last year’s midterm elections blamed Trump, and see DeSantis, not the former president, as the most likely Republican to defeat the Democratic nominee, generally presumed to be President Joe Biden.

However, DeSantis’s national appeal still remains to be seen, although his cruise to reelection as Florida’s governor and rise as a popular politician lead many to believe he will choose to run for president in 2024.
