FISHERS, INDIANA July 8, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Land Betterment Corporation (“Land Betterment” or the “Company”), an environmental solutions company fostering positive impact through upcycling former coal mining and industrial sites to create sustainable community development and job creation, today announced that its sustainable housing division, ekō, has delivered its 1st six container homes to its sustainable housing community, The Village of Pike, located in Pike County, Kentucky.

The Village of Pike is a 4-acre development just outside of Pikeville, Kentucky and is designed as a 20-home village of modern, container-based units with a variety if sizes and models. Land Betterment’s ekō villages are communities that offer residents with a sustainable, high-end, cost-effective and luxury container-based home designed to bring a new and more efficient housing option to the region. The villages aim to support this dynamic transitioning economy, with a focus on innovation, agriculture and industrial parks with nearby employment opportunities.

Mark Jensen, Executive Chairman of Land Betterment Corporation commented, “We are extremely excited to be at a point of delivering our first ekō homes to the region. Having the acceptance and approval of the local communities is an important milestone as we begin to offer a supplemental option to the current housing stock in the region.  Our ekō villages are bringing real, sustainable, environmental and social solutions to a region in need. The villages are safe, flat, spacious, and well located.  Additionally, our ekō homes provide local residents with an affordable housing option that is strong, energy efficient and weather, insect and rodent resistant.  They offer modern amenities and will provide residents their own personal and safe living spaces.” Jensen concluded, “With our first ekō homes being delivered today, this is proof of concept that we can innovate the current housing stock with modern, ecological and sustainable housing options while successfully working and collaborating with the local communities.”

ekō aims at providing residents with a modern, alternative housing option in the form of container-based modular housing villages.  Its container-based homes use recycled steel shipping containers as the homes’ main frame, which creates a very safe and durable structure, and are very eco-friendly due to the repurposing of materials, quick construction timing, and much less wasted materials.  Additionally, ekō homes are very energy efficient and have a solar option, which can further reduce the cost of utilities to near zero.
