  • A: Hello! This robot is perfect for both tile and on carpet -- but if your house contains mostly tile flooring, you may want to consider the i7+ instead of the s9+. They have similar power and cleaning ability on hard surfaces. The biggest draw of the s9+ is that it has 40x the suction power of the i7+ while on carpet. If you don't have many carpeted surfaces, the i7+ would be a perfectly acceptable option instead.

The products are great until they aren't. And customer service is not helpful. My vacuum is not even 2 months old and it has issues connecting to the app, says it's running but it's not. Won't charge which means it won't empty. Two customer service agents and both were less than helpful and one was rude telling me I'm not getting a new one and to keep trying to reboot until it works, even though I didn't ask nor wanted a new one. My regret is not listening when I was told to NOT get a roomba.

Good product, but a few highlights for it could be better

Generally speaking, it does what it says it will do - it cleans well, will empty itself, and has a pretty good user interface. My two big areas of concern are: 1. The remapping process leaves a lot to be desired. We should be able to just add-on rooms without having to start the entire process all over. As a result, the initial setup was very time consuming 2. It takes too long to complete a cycle. It takes a couple of hours to vacuum an area that I can do in 15 minutes if I just do it myself. It's pretty inefficient for our needs. But again, it does do what it says it will do, but it just doesn't really do what we need it to do.

J9+ Combo Major Fail(s)!

I have owned a few different Roombas for probably close to or more than 10 years. I recently decided to give the J9+ Combo. I am now on my third one in less than a month because they each have had various issues. The first one wouldn't map and navigate properly. The second one would not empty the bin at the end of a mission, and the option to do so in the app would not show up. It also developed a very loud whirring sound when running. I spoke with someone at iRobot yesterday who instructed me to run a Clean Everywhere routine. She called back after an hour and I reported that it did not resolve the issue. She said she would call me back again in a few hours, as I had to leave for an appointment and she wanted do a bit more research. I did not receive the call a promised, and furthermore, I received an email indicating that the issue had been resolved and the ticket closed. 😲 At this point I decided to return to Best Buy last night to exchange it...again. The THIRD one is doing the same thing: IT DOES NOT EMPTY THE BIN at the end of a mission! That is a very essential feature and should not be an issue. How??? 😡 I have been a very loyal customer over the years, as I have had almost all great experiences in the past. This one though? Utterly, ultimately, sadly disappointing. I am now considering, researching other options.

The vacuum function is good. Programming needs major work

The vacuum function is pretty good. It cleans the flooring both carpet (medium depth) and hardwood. The big shortfall is the programming. Mapping a single story ~2500 square foot open concept home took 6+ hours and it was a hot mess. Several times the robot got stuck and just went back and forth over the same spot doing the same moves to try and free itself from between the coffee table and couch (a very easy spot to free itself from). If you buy this you need to be prepared to spend significant time editing the map on your phone (easier said than done). Rooms will need to be labelled, dividers will need to be moved, exclusion zones put in (small area rugs and doormats are a no go unless they are paper thin). Once I put the time in to fully modify the map. Now that the map is done after several modifications, the cleaning of the house takes about 6 hours with 2 battery recharges. If the programming were better, this would be a 5* device. Unfortunately, the headaches of the programming glitches (robot getting stuck under the dining room table -- something that needs to be cleaned under) makes it less than trouble free.

I can't physically vacuum and this does it for me. It's pretty loud. And, it goes over and over the same spots, sometimes. But, it gets the job done.

The machine sounds like a jetliner at takeoff. I can hear it start through solid wood walls. This is my 4th or 5th Roomba and non have been this loud. As soon as it starts @4am, I'm awake and running to turn it off. This has been a great disappointment. The Roomba before this one was troubled with error codes. I was to send it back but the box to send it back was complicated.

iRobot eats chords and gets stuck in strange places

The vacuum is good with dog hair, though needs frequent service. It has difficulty with electric chords and going from tile to carpet. It does fine in rooms with little furniture and few obstacles. I can do a much better job, and more quickly, with a hand-held vacuum stick.

Removing 3 whole stars because without the ability to customize the controls and features for different runs, what's the point…. I paid a premium price for premium features which I cannot toggle in the app. Even purchased protect plus plan and support continues to tell me I need to reboot the robot and it'll fix it. I've done that so many times I've lost count and never a fix not even a temporary one did it provide. I've reset to factory, tried the app on different device etc, everything I've tried under suggestion has not Worked.

Nice vacuum with strong suction. Best shape "D" compare to other robots. New vacuums have better navigation and features. Also have the J9+ combo. Like the part of water tank on base but not having a cleaning pad base is a down. Others company like Roborock have that feature and in my opinion is better and the part of drying it. If I mop with the J9 I need to clean the pad every time and that's not automatization

When the Roomba s9+ is working, it does a very good job of cleaning. However, keeping it working has been very problematic. Problem number one: The unit must be rebooted 2 to 3 times per week. It loses connectivity with WIFI. Problem number two: It also doesn't dock properly, therefore doesn't charge. Problem number three: The first unit purchased, shelled its motor. Roomba replaced the whole unit under warranty. Since then, three more motors have become defective and had to be replaced. Fortunately, I am able to replace the motors. Each time, the motor has been sent free under warranty. Because of the unreliability, I felt the need to purchase an extended warranty. I have been pleased with the service received under warranty.
