Suicide in the SDGs
The SDGs were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015 and look to 2030. They are far broader in scope than the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which focused on a narrow set of disease-specific health targets for 2015.
Goal 3 of the SDGs is to: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Target 3.4 is: By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health
and well-being. Within Target 3.4, suicide rate is an indicator (3.4.2).
World Health Statistics: Monitoring health for the SDGs
World Health Statistics focuses on the proposed health and health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and associated targets. It represents an effort to bring together available data on SDG health and health-related indicators.
